Easy Savings: Fall 2024 Edition

The best WiFi, mobile, and technology deals of the season.

We're excited to bring something new to this week's newsletter: a curated list of the best deals and savings opportunities for Fall 2024.

Inside, you'll find our top picks for Wi-Fi plans, mobile data packages, and CAA memberships. We're also sharing our go-to resource for buying technology and highlighting some early Black Friday deals you won't want to miss.

At Nook, our mission is to help you save money while providing a better understanding of your financial health. We hope this new newsletter series brings you closer to achieving our first pillar.

Best Wifi Plan

Telus Fibre Plans

Telus is introducing fibre plans with a competitive introductory offer:

  • $99/month for 1.5 Gigabit fibre internet, with the price locked in for 2 yearsLearn more here.

This matches the price available through Teksavvy, but with Teksavvy, the rate is only guaranteed for 12 months. Details here.

Comparable plans at Bell and Rogers are $110/month.

Best Mobile Data Plan

Public Mobile

This was an easy choice for us. Several team members switched to Public Mobile this past summer, and we've all been pleased with the service. We haven't noticed any difference compared to other major telecom providers, which is a win considering the savings.

Currently, they offer a 5G plan with 50GB of data usable in Canada and the US, plus 250 long-distance minutes, all for $36/month. Public Mobile is owned by Telus, so you're on the reliable Telus network.

For comparison, Rogers offers a 175GB plan for Canada, the US, and Mexico at $100/month. While it includes more data and 1,000 long-distance minutes, many users may find the extra data unnecessary at almost three times the cost.

You can get an additional $10 off of Public Mobile when you use our referral code JK70P9. Sign up here.

CAA Premier Membership

We're all familiar with CAA's roadside assistance programs. Recently, they've introduced a valuable new benefit through a partnership with Maple.

The CAA Premier Membership now includes unlimited free general practitioner consultations per year via Maple. On its own, this service costs $80/month.

Explore all their membership plans here. For new members, you can save 20% on memberships with the code BF20.

Apple Refurbished Products

This isn't a hidden deal, but it's one we've benefited from over the years. Purchasing refurbished products directly from Apple offers several advantages:

  • Same Warranty: Refurbished products come with the same one-year warranty as new items.
  • AppleCare Eligible: You can still purchase AppleCare for additional coverage.
  • Price: Savings of approximately 15% when compared to the same new product.

The main difference is the packaging—Apple refurbished products come in a plain white box instead of the standard Apple box.

Inventory changes frequently, so it's worth checking regularly. Find out more here.
